The fact that we get to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and Shaq’s birthday together is very gratifying. For years, we have missed celebrating special occasions together but today I rejoice over the fact that I get to see and lay next to my life partner.
Shaq and I have been together for 6 years now. Unfortunately the better part of those 6 years our relationship was mostly long distance. I would get to see him counted times in a year. Whenever he came home for his RnR, somehow I would be caught up with work and we never really got time to spend with each other.
Even after we got married, our marriage was dragged into the long distance trail and we both resolved that it was time to close the gap. Our prayer was for him to relocate back home so that we can build our marriage and home together. Our friends, family and prayer groups joined us faithfully in prayers, God finally answered us.
Early this year, Shaq moved back home and at last we were together. Having him home has made me a happier person and he is equally happy to be home, close to his family and friends. Nowadays I even have the luxury of sitting in the co-drivers seat as he drops and picks me up from work.
I enjoy the fact that we get to make and share meals together, go for dates, engage in each others hobbies and work. I love to see Zein and Zuri jump with joy when he comes home in the evening or whenever he is taking them for walks. Seeing that warms my heart.
Marriage is still new to us, but there are a few lessons that I have learn’t of which I will share with you guys in due time. I will try and be very candid with you.
Today as I celebrate his birthday and our anniversary, I want to appreciate him for his kindness, love, loyalty and trust. Shaq, words cannot express how good of a man you are, all I can do is thank God for gifting me with you and to ask him to favor you all the days of your life.
He loved her, of course, but better than that, he choose her, day after day. Choice: that was the thing – Sherman Alexie
