As we grow older, we become conscious about our skincare and health. We start choosing the kind of food that we eat, we create meal plans, we research about new beauty products that will slow down the aging process and one that keeps the skin looking soft, silkly and healthy. That is great and I rally for that.
Personally I source for organic products because my skin has been through a lot in the past, so when I started adding organic products to my skincare regime, I started seeing positive change. The products are kind to my skin and I have never reacted to any of the products that I have being using for the past 8 months.
My skincare regime consists of two masks, jojoba oil, tea tree oil ,oil control moisturizer and a sunscreen. You might be asking what about a face scrub….well I use bicarbonate of soda with water as a scrub. I have found that it is cheap and very effective – it gets the job done.
Normally I first start with a mixture of Red Moroccan Clay + Charcoal + three drops of Tea Tree Oil + Water. What I first do is crush two tablets of charcoal then I add 1 serving of the clay powder. The mixture will look like ash. Also, having learnt the benefits of Tea Tree oil and knowing when and how to use it, I prefer adding it but it is not mandatory.
As explained in the picture above, you will get a smooth consistency. The paste should not be too light or too thick. Normally I add water with a teaspoon up until I am comfortable with the thickness. I then apply the paste on my face but if you wish, you can take it all the way down to your neck and shoulders.
The mask takes about 10 to 15 minutes to dry up. Do not leave it up for too long because when it drys up, it will be hard for you to talk and obviously your skin will feel tight… So wash off after 15 minutes maximum.
Remember ‘The Unexpected’ post that I shared two weeks ago? The sun in Malindi caused harm to my skin and I experienced discoloration and flaking on my entire body, including my face. You can clearly see in the photo above that my forehead and other areas of my face are slightly darker. Trust me we are healing: Initially it was bad.
Next, I apply my Pore – fecting Papaya and Pineapple face mask. It is a gel so it applies easily on the skin and it doesn’t dry up. After 5 minutes the gel will have worked it magic – rinse with water and then apply the Jojoba oil.
I also like adding a drop of Tea Tree oil on top of the Jojoba oil.
*Caution: 100% Tea Tree oil is so strong and it can burn the skin so always dilute it first. I apply it on top of the Jojoba oil since I know that I already have a canvas on my skin. Avoid the eye areas when applying Tree Tea.
I also use Tree Tea as a toner. What I do is add like 5 drops onto my Simple toner. It works like a dream….
And we are done.
My advise: First do your research and know what works for your skin type. This works for me and I shall continue to use it up until I find something new.
The above products can be found at Healthy U.
