Hallo Happy People,
Hope you are keeping warm in this cold Nairobi weather… The skies are no longer blue but we thank God that the soil is being rejuvenated from the rains; God bless our land.
“Today’s post is on getting married, and this particular topic is very dear to my heart”. Having the thought of getting married gets me on high adrenaline, with the planning and searching for the perfect gown and ring just put an instant glow on my face.
Getting married honestly is a beautiful thing especially when you know you have found your forever and for always love. Meeting the right man and him proposing is an assurance that, that is a God ordained union. Its important to have gone through a journey with a man before you say ‘yes’ to him. The journey of dating and being in a relationship with a someone is crucial since this is the only time you will get to know if he is Mr or Mrs right for you. In this journey you get to find out likes and dislike of your better half. You begin to understand how he/she deals with excitements, disappointments, stress and also their anger or temper issues. Dating is not just about having fun but the both of you are in your own self-made class learning about each other. In this class you will get to learn if he is a keeper or not.
Ladies, there is a sense of pride when your man pays a token of appreciation to your parents. I once thought it was an unnecessary customary requirement but I got to appreciate dowry when my fiance paid for my dowry. I do not want to go into the details of exorbitant dowry payment or rituals or whether one should pay or not, I will leave that discussion for Maina and King’angi. That is a matter I chose not to discuss or give airtime too, but if I was asked to give my personal opinion then it would be; ‘dowry is a token of appreciation to the brides parents’ note the key word here is TOKEN.
CHURCH MATTERS (OPTIONAL)
Going through pre-marital classes is also important especially when you are being mentored by married couples who have been married for years. They usually give the best advise and oh my don’t they have much to say on ‘pleasing your spouse’ it is a fun class and also those classes help you decided whether or not you want to go ahead with getting married. The teach you about finances, family planning, on having and raising kids and so on. So guys please attend pre-marital classes before you walk down the aisle.
ON PLANNING A WEDDING
Planning a wedding can either be an exciting and daunting too. The excitement comes from wanting a beautiful wedding hence rushing to Google and searching for the best ideas. Trust me Google will feed you with all the ideas you could possibly imagine, but you have to have a vivid picture of your dream wedding then go ahead and use Google to help you put your ideas in order. Make a proper wedding ideas pin that suits you. Basically know what you want.
Planning a wedding can also be draining and frustrating especially if both families want to put their nose where it is not needed. It is important for the bride and groom to tell off their family members when they start overstepping their boundaries. So be courageous enough to stop your family members when you feel like they are all over your wedding plans and especially when your ideas are clashing with theirs.
Weddings are not cheap, especially in Kenya. So please agree on a budget and stick to it. Always have some room for adjustment just incase you under budget or over budget.
I for one, believe in having an intimate ceremony with close family and friends. So discuss with you spouse on whether you want to have a big wedding with the whole clan from shaggz or you want an intimate private wedding.
FAMILY AND FRIENDS SUPPORT
Having a supportive family and friends is a good thing, they make the whole process seamless. But its only seamless if both of you have good relations with your close family and friends.
I will share my journey on dating and getting married in the coming posts so stay tuned… I will share the good, the bad and a few photos from my rurashio and dating days will be added to some of the posts. I hope I will s inspire you guys. I have so much to share on wedding planning, and I owe all this knowledge thanks to Google and Pinterest and not forgetting my dear planner Miss Winnie…
