“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.” Friedrich Nietzsche
Have you ever tried taking an evening walk at the beach, when the sun is down and the breeze is as refreshing a cold Coke? You gaze at the waves from the ocean and all the beautiful thoughts start rushing through your brain and you feel so alive that you automatically get an impulse of jumping into the waves as they approach the shore just to have your feet splashed. I am sure most of you have experienced that awesome unforgettable feeling.
My life is changing and so is my surrounding. Nowadays, I have conversations with myself trying to figure out my purpose in life. I am also seeking that which God has bestowed upon me. I want to understand my gift, nurture it, and allow it to direct the course of my life.
I have found walking especially in the evening very therapeutic. Every time I’m outside walking, the wind blowing through my clothes to my skin, makes me feel so refreshed and alive. At that moment I feel like my creator is walking with me while helping me figure out my thoughts. The million questions and burdens that linger in my mind seem to float away as I receive answers and guidance from my creator.
In life, we experience so many things and it is important to take time to reflect backwards in order to move forward. Reflecting allows us to realize and see the mistakes that we make and see how best we can prevent them from happening in the future. Learning from our mistakes is a valuable learning tool. One should not feel embarrassed about making a mistake. What you should be embarrassed of is refusing to admit to your mistakes and refusing to correct your ways or saying you are sorry when you have wronged someone.
How often do you get ideas when you are walking home, driving or you are in your quiet space? I bet your answer is, “very often”. It is important to listen to your inner voice when these ideas pop up. That might just be the breakthrough that you have been waiting for. Never shut down an idea just because you think it’s foolish or not do-able. Get that close and true friend that you have and share your idea. See how it resonates with them and do not stop there. Look for mentors who can guide you and also put in the work it needs to bring it to life.
May be you feel beaten up with life or are probably experiencing lots of pressure at work and you need a new perspective on how to approach these stress channels. Take some time out and a line your thoughts, listen to your inner voice and learn how to control these different aspects of your life. If you need to change something to be happy, then go ahead and do exactly that.
Do not let anyone rob you off your happiness. Do not allow anyone shut down your dreams.
Make a daily habit of reflecting over your day. You can put your thoughts down on a journal or you can have silent conversations with yourself. Alternatively, you can form a habit of taking evening strolls like me. Choose what works for you.
Living forward is about having control over your thoughts and your life.
Be a good dictator of your life, do not give people or things the power to dictate you.
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” Søren Kierkegaard
Do have a pleasant week.
